lost-in-centuries-long-gone:“Tom Thumb” Meets “Big Bill” c. 1920s by sunnybrook100 on Flickr. In this delightful 1920s 6 x 8 inch vintage black-and-white photograph the diminuative “Tom Thumb” (billed as the smallest horse in the world at the time) is introduceded to “Big Bill,” a large handsome draft horse. As the two gingerly sniff noses, Tom is held by his owner, D. E. Clark of Cleveland, Ohio, while Bill’s halter is held by a man wearing a farrier’s leather apron. Three men lounging around in the background look on as the “historic meeting” takes place. A fender and wheel of some sort of motorized vehicle is tantalizingly visible at the left. (Too bad the entire vehicle did not make it into the photo!) The typed caption appearing on the back of the photograph reads as follows: “WORLD’S SMALLEST HORSE EIGHT YEARS OLD, WEIGHS 76 POUNDS, COSTS FIFTY CENTS A WEEK TO FEED, IS INTRODUCED TO ‘BIG BILL.’ -- source link
