angelbain: Catra is one of the cleverest characters in She Ra and is HPThe series gives us a lot of examples of her cognitive abilities, even if they differ from the type of intelligence Entrapta can use. Catra is able to come up with new plans and ideas that could work if the princesses had not a brute force she cannot really estimate, and she comes out with them very quick (her escape from Bow and Glimmer is an example of this wit). She is able to play tricks on other characters, to manipulate them. She also mastered an ability to fight with bare hands able to compete with a princess without magic. She was able to understand the reality of the Horde way before Adora. The only princess able to compete with her in this area is Entrapta, but if the latter does not grasp the complicated speech Entrapta uses, we can see she very easily understand her once Entrapta rephrases, and is immediately able to imagine how she could use it. But she is not only clever, she is High Potential (HP). Catra shows a range of characteristics of high potential person: being late, not complying by the rules, frustration with the environment, only going to classes she cares about (she skipped orientation, remember), wit with words, socially unadapted and highly emotional. Even if she is not the nerdy type like Entrapta, the theory of multiples intelligences by Gardner shows she is gifted in her own ways. Gardner theory affirms that there as multiple type of intelligence, and that being HP is not only being extremely performant in some of them, but to have significant difference between the mastering of some intelligences and others, and to have at least one type of intelligence way higher than the majority of the population. She indeed shows this variety: she has extremely strong kinetic intelligence (the “body” intelligence, ability to work with your body, dexterity, strengh…) for example, to the point that she can compete with magical beings in terms of fighting abilities. Her verbal intelligence is also very strong (she is able to manipulate others, to bull***t her way out). I guess her visual and logical intelligences are quite strong to be able to establish strategies on the battlefield. On the other side, some of her intelligences are weak or very weak: Interpersonal intelligence (ability to understand others, to feel empathy) is very weak and corrupted by the abuse she was objected to; it is very hard for her to bond with others, and she cannot understand their goals or affections (she is blind to Scorpia’s affection and/or does not deal with it properly). She has very poor intrapersonal intelligence as well (ability to understand yourself, to know your strengths and weaknesses, to deal with your emotions). This is shown thorough the show by her problems with ego and her relationship with Adora: Catra cannot built a proper sense of self and identity, but need someone to compare herself to. On this last matter, I truly believe the main obstacle between her and any form of redemption or happiness is the Intrapersonal intelligence. As long as she is unable to build her own self, any relationship with Adora is completely impossible. I truly do not think the Interpersonal intelligence is a big deal (Entrapta lacks of Intrapersonal intelligence are much bigger and she is much happier than Catra). The inevitable conclusion to this rant is: Adora leaving is indeed the best thing that could happen to Catra. I know it sounds counter-intuitive because Catra basically ended up trying to destroy the whole world because Adora left her. But Adora was the plug that prevents the river from flooding. As long as she was there, Catra could compensate her Intrapersonal problem with her love for Adora, but sooner or later, Adora would have done or said something that would have made her burst out. Catra needed Adora to go if she wanted to build a proper understanding of herself. Well the main problem is that she was never truly away from Adora (she is clingy af). She litteraly needs to be taken of in a SPACE-MOTHERF***ING-SHIP to stick away from her. If my theory is correct, then Catra’s redemption can only start now that she is TRULY away from Adora. To better come back after? Maybe. We do not know what will be Catra’s feelings for Adora once she will have build herself properly. But Catra needs to be alone to stop being Adora’s sidekick.  -- source link
