sumeriasmith:Meanwhile, I have now gotten around to cleaning up the scan of the finished Xiao Xingchen, entry number ten in the Sad Cultivators with Animals series. This one was principally challenging in that it called for a lot of pale, delicate colors, which is very much not my strength. This was further complicated by my not wanting to shade the robes in blue, lest he go Lan-colored, while at the same time needing the white shaded with pale grey to look distinct from the parts that are actually pale grey. Special shout out to the new pale green paint I’d recently gotten; exactly the shade of pale transparent celadon I’d long been seeking. In the end, this one was almost entirely watercolor (and pen and ink); only the skin and the final finish on the hair were done in marker. -- source link
