Elderberry / Sambucus ‘Nova’ plant - Delicious and easy to grow Elderberries are a great, easy-to-grow large shrub/small tree. We HIGHLY recommend growing this with 'York’, in order to ensure adequate pollination. Native to North America, they are enjoyed by humans and wildlife alike. The berries on 'Nova’ ripen slightly before those of 'York’.Spring brings beautiful panicles of white flowers that will bring pollinators around. Summer brings the purple, Vitamin-C rich berries that are commonly used to make delicious jams, jellies, preserves, wines, medicinal syrups, and cordials. For the best fruit harvests, it is important to make sure they are watered during summer.Hardy to USDA zones 4-8. They will grow in sun or partial shade, and can handle moist or dry conditions once established. Soil pH of 5.5-6.5.Mature sizing: 6’-10’ tall, 6’-8’ wide, unless you prune them otherwise. Expect fruit in 2-3 years. Note that you may find yourself competing with wildlife for the sweet berries! If you are interested in purchasing both 'Nova’ and 'York’, we also sell them as a pair, at a discounted price. -- source link
