realmonstrosities: The Cobalt Crust Fungus (Terana caerulea) has the blues!This beautiful fungus is found in warm, damp forests across the world. Unfortunately, it’s mostly not found at all because it encrusts the underside of fallen branches. I guess it’ll be a nice surprise for someone flipping logs in search of creepy-crawlies.It’s also known as the Velvet Blue Spread. That’s pretty cool because you can choose an appropriate name based on the weather. If it’s dry the fungus will be brittle and Cobalt Crusty. If it’s damp it’ll be all soft and Velvety Blue.You can also learn a lot about the importance of location, location, location. The Cobalt Crust Fungus looks great in the woods.
