Chai’s only 7 months old, so it will be a year and a half before the time comes, but I wanted to share! Barring bad hip scores it’s pretty much a done deal now! We’ve been talking with the male’s owner, breeder, and “grand-breeder” (lol) and everyone’s on board and moving forward with health testing. Whisky is the brother of a dog that Chai’s owner owns and adores, which is neat. He was bred by Widdershins Farmcollies. He’s ¾ rough collie, ¼ border, and according to his owner and breeder he has a gentle and loving temperament. He likes to uphold household rules without being pushy, and he’s great with the owner’s small livestock. A sensitive but easygoing, sweet guy, smart and a fast learner. I don’t have a stacked picture of him but have lots of video, and I really like his movement and structure. I hope Chai’s improves, especially her straight rear angles, but 7 months is a bad age for that. Overall I’m fairly happy with her build so far.Chai is from my Kai/Callie pairing, the Pride Litter, and is a co-own. ¾ Siberian husky, ¼ Shetland sheepdog. When she was with me she stood out to me as the calmest and most laid-back puppy, though not exactly the brightest, haha! Her owner describes her as “the easiest dog/puppy” she’s ever owned, over decades, and says she brings a smile to the face of everyone she meets. She’s just a happy, sweet as pie, affectionate, and cuddly girl. Very resilient temperament–nothing has ever stressed her out or bothered her at all. I hope that pairing her with a collie type dog will bring in some trainability while complementing her loving, mellow nature. Whisky’s Embark test is being run right now. Chai is clear/non-carrier for all the major diseases he might be carrying, so that won’t be an issue. https://my.embarkvet.com/dog/chai10CAER eye exams are next, then eventually hip x-rays. Again, we have a year and a half to get everything done, but Chai’s owner and I are so excited! The litter will all have feathered, short double coats because Chai does not carry the long coat gene. Most/all will be sable, although Chai carries red (Bb) and there’s a 50/50 chance Whisky does as well. The four-breed mix should bring a lot to the table genetic diversity wise! -- source link
