great historical authors - victor hugo [1/?] Victor Hugo (1802-1885) was a French writer active during the mid-nineteenth century. He was a key figure of French Romanticism, and perhaps instrumental in introducing the movement to the stage with his play Hernani. His most famous works are Les Misérables (1862) and Notre Dame de Paris (1830). Hugo was a playwright and poet as well as a novelist, and often used his work for political activism as well as entertainment. He was married to Adèle and had two daughters, Léopoldine and Adèle.
