Call for blogs: We want to know how young feminists from around the world are raising awareness about gender-based violenceDear Young Feminist Wire Members,“Feminist activists have been using the months of April and May to raise awareness about sexual assault. We would like to hear how young feminists from around the world work to raise awareness about the various ways in which gender-based violence affects young women, trans* and gender non-conforming youth in offline and online spaces as well as at the intersections of real-world and web-based realities.Over the years, the Young Feminist Activism (YFA) program has covered many young feminist initiatives that work to combat gender-based violence, sexism and misogyny through Young Feminist Wire. Get inspired by reading the submissions from last year’s call for blogs here. For even more inspiration, you can also read what the YFA has featured on this important issue over the last year. For example, you can listen to our interview with Deena Mohamed, the young feminist creator of Qahera, a hijabi web comic-strip superheroine, who teaches us about the complexities of addressing sexual assault in Cairo. In When offline harassment meets online harassment: dismantling patriarchy is grueling work, we analyze the online reactions to a Hollaback! video featuring a young woman facing a barrage of street harassment. In March, we spoke to Elonë Kastrati, a young feminist from Germany who started the #PadsAgainstSexism action on International Women’s Day.Now, we want to hear from you! Tell us your story. Maybe you’ve taken part in an initiative to raise awareness, organized a campaign, created a group, created a mural/art piece, wrote a blog, or participated in any other form of resistance to put an end to sexual assault and gender-based violence in your school, neighbourhood, community, country, or even internationally.Submission Guidelines:Submissions can be in written or video form.Written submissions should:– Be 500 words in length– Response to the theme of sexual assault and gender-based violence awareness– Be authored by a young feminist activist (under the age of 30).– Be clearly and accessibly written– Include references to concrete examples from the context of the contributor– Be in English, Spanish or FrenchVideo submissions should:– Be 2-3 minutes in length– Be clear and cohesive– Respond directly to the theme of sexual assault and gender-based violence awareness– Be featuring a young feminist activist (under the age of 30)– Include references to concrete examples from the context of the contributor– Be in English, Spanish or FrenchSend your submissions by email to yfa@awid.org with the title “Sexual assault and gender-based violence awareness” in the subject line by Wednesday May 1st, 2015.”Source -- source link
