rapture-and-bliss:“Qutulun daughter of Qaidu”(1410-1412) from a French medieval miniature dated 1410-1412 called The Travels of Marco Polo.Khutulun (1260-1306) was a warrior of the Mongol tribe. Her father, Kaidu, was the cousin of Kublai Khan. She was a skilled warrior and accompanied her father on his military campaigns. Impressed by her, he named her his successor to the khanate but she was not allowed to take the position because of the existence of male relatives who would be more likely to be accepted as the new khan. Her story was brought to the western world through Marco Polo. Giacomo Puccini based his opera, Turandot, on Khutulun’s legend, although he downplayed her warrior role in his opera. | via wikipedia commons[posted by rapture & bliss]BNF, Manuscript Français 2810, fol. 95v -- source link
