the-saucy-wave-equation: 17.03.20 So! Now that I’ve opted out of my final exam I can get back to research, my one love. The tricky part about that is that I need to figure out how to actually do research productively at home. I have a smaller desk than I would like, but since i’m not taking notes or anything that should be fine. One thing I would like to do is try and use the fact that I have to establish new routines to work in some new project management ideas that I had a few weeks ago, now that all my time can be devoted to research. These things would include: having different “types” of days, such as days where I do just data analysis, or just coding, or just running and organizing calculations. devote a set amount of time to reading papers and writing every week, maybe at a specific time each week modulate the number of each “type” of day or half-day per week/month based on my latest priorities. So I’m going to experiment with that as well as with how to structure my time with my sorta-bullet journal. The rest of this week will be semi-experimentation with it, so if I don’t get too much done I won’t beat myself up over it. The benefit of this is that I have much more time to do the deep work that having lots of meetings and classes disrupted. I’m a fan of deep work, so that’s good. And of course I’ll still be tracking my time just to get an idea of how much work I’m doing, though I won’t be aiming for a specific amount each day. I’m really trying to have a lot of self-compassion right now, since it’s a stressful time, a time of change. And I don’t deal with change very well, unfortunately.
