2 weeks ago we shared the first image from the EPIC camera, placed by NASA on the recently-launched DSCOVR satellite in a position where it will constantly stare at the earth and take regular, full-planet photographs.NASA just shared this absolutely remarkable gif sequence taken from that camera, showing the Moon passing between the Earth and the Camera. This is the side of the moon we never see from Earth, it always points away from us, but it is fully illuminated by sunlight in this sequence. You can see the couple of small spots of Mare Basalt (the dark stuff) on the back of the moon in the image as it slides by.NASA just made my day. -- source link
