alphabetafish: black-white-madness: Madness: Tian Yi in “Memoirs Of A Geisha” by Oliver Stalmans for ELLE Vietnam, May 2013 Please correct me if I’m wrong about anything written here. NOTHING IN THIS PHOTO IS RELATED TO GEISHA. The model, Tian Yi, is of Chinese descent and the long golden nails shown could be reminiscent of Chinese aristocracy at some point in history or of Thai brass nails used in dancing. The hairstyle, makeup, and top don’t have any characteristics related to geisha. Stalmans should’ve named this photo better, especially since this was for a magazine targeted at an Asian demographic (and also because we Asians actually have differences among our various cultures and it would be great to not perpetuate this geisha image on all Asian females). At most, this is a very westernized look on an Asian model with non-western nail jewelry and a one-flowered shirt. -- source link
