Amritsar is a city Northwest of Delhi. It took 6 hours to reach it by train, and our short visit there was wonderful. We spent hours admiring the Golden Temple - the spiritual epicentre for the Sikh faith. The atmosphere surrounding the temple was incredibly serene. It was a welcome break from the honking tuk tuks and the hustle and bustle of city streets. Nate and Paul bought a few kites which made for a very enjoyable afternoon - we climbed to the roof of our hostel and with the help of Gopi, one of the hostel managers, we flew a kite high in the sky (not without crashing and ripping a couple kites first). It was amazing to look out across the rooftops of Amritsar and watch the hundreds of kites that were soaring all around us. Amritsar was a friendly city and was slightly toned down compared to the metropolis of Delhi where we had come from. We had great chats with curious shopkeepers and passer-bys who wanted to know where we were from and what we thought of their city. After two days and one night, we set off again towards Jaisalmer, with a stop-over in Bikaner. Now we’re preparing for a little camel safari in the desert! -- source link
