@whereintheworldisb ・・・ A true, other worldly experience! No, this is not snow, salt and it’s technically not sand. This is gypsum! In the state of New Mexico, you can find the world’s largest gypsum sand dunes. So large in fact, you can see it from Space. So, what the heck is gypsum? Well, I’m glad you asked! It’s a water-soluble mineral that usually gets washed away during rainfall. But what’s special here is that because the dunes are located in a geographical basin, the water has no where to go except to evaporate and leave the gypsum behind. Even in the hottest weather, gypsum is cool to the touch so it’s super comfortable to walk on (unlike sand which absorbs heat). However, it appears BLINDINGLY white in broad day because it reflects so much sunlight. If you appreciate your eyesight then shades are a MUST!! Remember, your domestic is someone’s foreign. There’s much to be explored while you are close to home! (New Mexico, USA) #mytravelcrush https://www.instagram.com/p/CBGTrCyjxUI/?igshid=1lc2szmj0o9w2 -- source link
