Sticky DarknessThis illustration was created around the theme of ‘Horror’ and was submitted to a horror zine project. Sadly my piece didn’t get selected for publishing, but then I get to post it here instead! ;)Keep reading for some thoughts behind the piece: I wanted to create something in a comic book style, as if it was a page from a longer dark horror story.I was inspired by the stereotypical horror trope of “little ghost/creepy girls”, and haunted items often related to childhood, such as stuffed animals, as well as mental health struggles. Horror movies and stories often deal with the human psyche and mental illness as a catalyst for horror and darkness, as mental disorders would often be interpreted as demonic possessions and the likes back in the day (and still to this day in some cases I guess). The inspiration for the illustration was also drawn from my own experience with depression and anxiety that haunted me as a kid, around the age of 9 or 10. I was sad and submerged in a type of darkness that I did not understand at that age, and left to deal with it alone, as my mom was advised by our family doctor to try and handle it ourselves, since this was the mid 90’s… So I had to try and drag myself out of that murky sticky darkness that surrounded me. -- source link
