WEEK 19This week was filled with meetings! On Tuesday we met with some representatives of Alabama Power at the Hub to briefly present our design. The following day Dr. Dorsey came to Red Barn, where the team presented him with the latest design iterations and updated him on the current state of the project. After the presentation we talked about what Dr. Dorsey and the team envisioned the courtyard looking like and its use.Taking the feedback from the presentation, the team revisited the proportions of the screen to make a decision that would best fit the use of the space and site, while keeping in mind how this affects the performance of the building and the vines of the screen. Another element that is being further researched is the ground surface treatment, so that it’s something comfortable to sit on, allows the water to percolate into the ground and access to the utilities below grade. While keeping all of this in mind, the team prepared for our fantastic review at the end of the week with Dan Wheeler! We received a lot of great feedback from Dan, he mentioned some case studies to look at in terms of ground surfaces and lighting and urged us to think about how the structure for the screen could be pushed to provide the most for the space. He also answered some questions about how we tackle acoustics in an outdoor space and how to design for a space that is highly vegetated, meaning that once the project is complete the full design won’t be visible until years later and how we can take this into account while designing. -- source link
