#Repost @stoprecruitingkids (@get_repost)・・・The Pentagon has done what it can to involve itself in our nation’s education system, and has been actively seeking to expand this role. We should ask ourselves why this is the case, and whether or not such involvement is truly in the best interest of our children.While the goals of programs such as STARBASE and JROTC are often publicly described in lofty academic terms, they are funded in large part through the defense budget, and in the case of JROTC, through the military recruiting budget. This is a disingenuous use of public funds, and it seriously calls into question the stated goals of the programs.While it is important to inspire a love of learning in our children and to nurture and develop their curiosity in the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics fields (STEM), it makes little sense to turn to the DoD to help facilitate such goals given that we already have a Department of Education.The purpose of the military, after all, is not education. We should keep this in mind when it shows an interest in our children’s schools. Our kids are not cannon fodder.
