Client: National Endowment for the Arts, Humanities (magazine)Art Director: Maria BiernikTitle: “Pilgrims”Use: Cover, Humanities, Volume 36, Issue 6 Story: Commissioned for the cover of Humanities Magazine, this illustration was a response to the PBS documentary by acclaimed Director Ric Burns. It will be one of the four featured Case Studies within my Ideation Lab course. This harrowing story of the Pilgrims plight to Plymouth challenged me as both a conceptual and narrative illustrator. The story required an image that was both confronting and nuanced in order to encapsulate our Nation’s tragic beginning. The documentary is eye-opening and beautifully directed.Within the course, I’ll teach you how I conceived the idea that drove the illustration, chose the symbology, cast the characters/costumes, and why I chose oil as my medium to bring this piece to life. This is not another painting tutorial. It covers all of the important choices leading up to the final execution.Preorder before Wednesday, January 27th and save 20%. https://gum.co/thinklouder/preorder -- source link
