Shuake Week 2021 - Day 2 (Fate)Since the prompt I chose for today is a bit more abstract, I wanted to give a little bit of an explanation of my intentions with this piece. Gonna put this under a “Read More” since it got kinda long and I’ll be going into some P5R spoilers.Anyway, the main focus of this piece is the events of the third semester (specifically, the decision on whether to accept Maruki’s deal or not). My idea for this was essentially how this decision is what will ultimately decide Akechi’s fate.Since Akiren is the one to make the final decision I wanted to have this be more focused on him. The objects in his hands are to represent the two realities. In his right hand are chess pieces, used to depict the False Reality. In the anime (as well as the end credits if you accept the deal) the two of them are shown playing chess together, so I chose this to symbolize their happy memories together. Specifically, I chose a black king piece (like the one that Akiren gave to Akechi in the anime) as well as a white pawn (because choosing this reality means being controlled for the rest of their lives).Meanwhile in his left hand is the glove given to him by Akechi, representing the True Reality. The glove was chosen because it is a symbol of the promise between them (though rather than the promise to duel again, I used it more to depict the deal made between them in the third semester to end the False Reality). The glove also becomes a sort of memento of Akechi in this reality, so it also shows how choosing the True Reality will mean Akechi’s death.Next, we have the roses. White roses can have several different meanings, for this piece I used the meanings of “new beginnings” as well as “remembrance and respect for the departed”. These are essentially to represent Akiren’s conflicting wishes; he wants Akechi to have a second chance at life, but he also wants to respect Akechi’s wishes on the matter (even if it means losing him). Red roses, of course, are a symbol of love. In addition, when used together red and white roses symbolize “unity”, as the two of them will either be united in the False Reality, or united in stopping Maruki.Lastly, Akechi is shown in the background facing away from the camera (since he wants to “go back” to the True Reality). His image was made slightly transparent since his fate is uncertain until the decision is made. He is also shown facing towards the light in the background, since he has accepted the likelihood of his death.I think that about covers it? I admit I don’t generally do pieces like this (and I might have put a little more thought into this than was really necessary lol), so I hope it turned out okay! -- source link
