misspaperlilies: Hey yeah so I’ve been playing Guild Wars 2 and I really like it a whole lot. I played World of Warcraft a year ago for a few months and I enjoyed that but I definitely like Guild Wars more in most respects, which I will now tell you. Guild Wars doesn’t have a subscription fee, so you buy the game for £35-£50 and then you can play forever for free online with a zillion other people People are way friendlier and more willing to help each other out in the game The game rewards you for helping other people, and doesn’t cause you to screw things up for other people when you help them. Ie, if you help someone kill something, you both get whatever the thing drops. Big events are a lot easier to just do. You don’t have to co-ordinate with other people as much as in WoW, you can just show up in the right place and get involved. The entire game is generally a lot more casual to play. Controlling your attacks etc is simpler than in WoW but no less effective. You can change your armour colours whenever you want (which, fuck you, is my favourite thing). You have to buy ‘dyes’ that add a colour to the palette you can use. My character is all pastel colours right now <3 It’s a lot like WoW but with some of the more annoying aspects of WoW changed to be less irritating. For instance, you don’t have to return quests to the quest-giver, they just send you a letter with some cash and sometimes a little present :) The only thing I probably prefer in WoW is the cities, but so far I’ve only visited one city in GW so that may change You can’t change your hair in GW :’( Each character, when you set them up, has a series of parameters that you choose, so the one I’m currently playing with was raised as a noblewoman but was adopted and has always wanted to know what happened to her real parents… You then have a personal quest throughout the game which hinges on discovering things for your character and trying to get them to achieve their goals That makes you care about your character maybe more than you might otherwise. Your friends can help you on your ‘personal quest’, but you can do it on your own too if you want. People are just so friendly!? If you die in-game, you could just lay there a while and someone will probably come and resurrect you eventually. Overall, it’s very much like WoW but more fun. Which is what people told me before and I was unconvinced/didn’t care. Then some friends/family got it so I relented and I am glad I did :D I’ve been playing it on an imac. It’s fun you should play :D This is a very nice writeup! :D You can change your hair with a makeover kit. :) It costs gems, but you can buy gems with ingame gold. I’m jealous that you can play on your mac! My mac is over four years old, and doesn’t meet the system requirements for mountain lion, so I don’t think gw2 will run. :l -- source link
