2seeitall:Temple of Hephaestus, Ancient Agora of Athens, GreeceThe Temple of Hephaestus is one of the best preserved ancient temples in Greece. It was built between 449 and 440 BC. Although some attribute it to Ictinus, who was also responsible for constructing the Parthenon, the architect is unknown. The temple was dedicated to Hephaestus, patron of metal workers, and Athena Ergane, patroness of potters and crafts. It is also widely known by the name of “Thissio” (or “Thiseio”). This is because, at the time, it was believed that the remains of the mythical hero Theseus, the founder-king of Athens, were buried in the temple. IG: 2seeitall_ig -- source link
