It’s Wednesday, which means it’s time for weeds! Weed of the week is Lonicera maackii, the Amur honeysuckle. A shrub native to Northern China, eastern Siberia, Korea, and Japan, this species is actually rare in some parts of its native range, and endangered in Japan. Unfortunately, it’s highly invasive in the eastern United States and New Zealand. Not only that, but ticks love hiding in it. Of course, like most honeysuckles, it smells very sweet in the spring, and its nectar tastes good even to humans. But its pretty red berries are poisonous! Some landscaping companies still plant these despite their invasive habit. If you see one on your property if you live in the U.S. or New Zealand, get rid of it! -- source link
