The princess wept, and begged the forest to keep the body of her slain brother safe. The beasts heeded her call, and cleaned her brother’s bones until they shone like ivory. The birds came with flowers in their beaks and grew a trellis of sweet peas along his spine, and laid an arbor of lilies and peonies upon his ribcage.
