When the writers of the show contacted us to tell us about the new season, where Natalia Dyer’s character Nancy Wheeler will develop a bedwetting issue after a frightening experience; we were already excited about working together. Of course this wasn’t her first time in goodnites, she’d been wearing them every night for years, but it was the first time she’d be doing so in front of hundreds of people on set, and millions of people when the show aired on Netflix. She had a lifetime of experience keeping her wetting issues a secret from all but her family and closest friends. She thought back to her summers going to sleep away camp: wearing baggy clothes to bed, waking up early every morning to secretly dispose of her soaking wet goodnites before anyone else was up. Now that she was thinking about it Natalia realized that she took pride in her ability to keep her secret… secret. But that pride was gonna die today. Natalia looked in the mirror, mentally preparing herself to leave her dressing room in just a goodnite and a bra.Natalia was shocked and nervous to say the least when she first read Nancy’s bedwetting arc in the season 4 script, she was slightly relieved when she realized she could just say she was doing it for the part, that her secret didn’t need to come out. But slowly, as the start of filming grew closer, it began to eat at her. Deep down, under all the self-consciousnesses, Natalia did appreciate her goodnites. She felt safe and protected in them, the one night she hadn’t put them on before bed was when she was 16. After 3 dry nights in a row, Natalia’s parents were optimistic that she was outgrowing her problem, and asked her if she wanted to wear big girl panties to bed that night. Natalia said yes, not wanting to disappoint them, but once bedtime came and she wasn’t wearing her diaper to bed, Natalia realized something didn’t feel right. She couldnt even fall asleep, she just tossed and turned until 3 am when she finally caved and slid on her nighttime protection. She fell asleep with in minutes, and woke up wet as usual.It all didn’t need to be a secret anymore. All the hiding, all the anxiety about people finding out (which had only grown with Natalia’s fame) didn’t need to continue, she could disclose her secret on her own terms and end all of that. Hell, bedwetting was maybe becoming more accepted in Hollywood, even Emma Watson was openly wearing goodnites. Natalia did a lot of thinking, she talked to her family, talked to her boyfriend Charlie (who plays Jonathan on the show, and was already aware of her bedwetting), she talked to Sadie (who plays max and, as Natalia found out during filming last season, was also a bedwetter) , and she even reached out to Emma Watson. Emma was happy to talk to Natalia about it, and while she didn’t pressure Natalia to come out, Emma did reassure her by telling Natalia that most of the response to her own reveal was positive and that it gave her a great deal of publicity which had already led to some great new parts. Her talk with Emma is what ultimately inspired Natalia to come forward and tell the writers and the people at goodnites that she was a bedwetter and willing to go public with it.Natalia finally mustered up the courage to leave her dressing room and head to set in her “costume” for the scene. Natalia had done shirtless scenes, sex, scenes, and even masturbation scenes in her line of work before, but she never felt more exposed than she did now. With the deal she had signed with goodnites, there would be press releases showing her in goodnites coming out in just a month or so, the bedwetting was one of the only things the writers planned to let get out about the plot before the airing of the show. For months the only thing fans would know about the show’s 4th season was that Nancy wears diapers, and the actress who plays her wears them in real life too. She reached set and got ready for the scene. As an actress she was used to having a lot of eyes on her, but today Natalia felt like she was a bedwetter first and an actress second, and as a bedwetter it felt to her like all of those eyes were on the diaper between her legs and nothing else. She was visibly nervous, the director tried to calm her down, and both Charlie and Sadie gave her reassuring glances from off camera. But no amount of reassurance was gonna make up for the fact she had to pee. The scene was short, she just had finish getting ready for bed by putting on a nightgown and hop into bed on turn off her lamp. Of course there would be a glamour shot of her pull-up to show how deeply Nancy’s latest supernatural scare had effected her (and as was stipulated in product deal with goodnites.) Everyone was ready to start and time is money in Hollywood so Natalia couldn’t exactly take a potty break, she’d just have to hope she could hold it until after she was finished filming. The scene started with Nancy staring into her mirror examining herself with her nighttime protection on, just as Natalia had minutes before in her dressing room, the shot then switched to a close up of Nancy adjusting her goodnite before putting on her nightgown. Natalia was desperately trying to hold it together while staying in character, which was just made harder when the director wanted to get some different angles and had her start from the beginning again. Finally they reached the part in the scene where Nancy turned out the lights and fell asleep. Unfortunately, when she climbed into bed and pretended to sleep, Natalia’s instinct took over and she immediately flooded her goodnite with urine. Natalia was horrified and once the director called a wrap on the scene Natalia sprung out of bed to head back to her dressing room to change. Unfortunately for her, the nightgown had ridden up leaving her noticeably sodden diaper for everyone to see. Before she could get off the set, the director, noticing that Natalia’s goodnite had changed colors, was inspired by what he thought was Natalia going the extra mile in portraying her character. He approached her asking if they could get some shots of her in the wet goodnite for the next morning in the show, Natalia immediately looked down, mortified to see the bottom of her nightgown tucked into her obviously wet goodnite. However, unable to think of a good reason to refuse and eager to please, Natalia relented. “Something good is gonna come out of this” Natalia reassured herself as she stood ready, in nothing but her bra and a noticeably sagging goodnite, for millions of people to see. -- source link
