rosscountyhistoricalsociety: Silhouette of a woman identified as Mrs. Thomas Gregg. On the reverse, it says the silhouette was made by William Lawson Celaue in Philadelphia in 1792. The clothing’s style puts that date in question, however. Unfortunately, we don’t know Mrs. Gregg’s given name. We do know that she was born in Harrisburg, PA, and she moved with her husband and his brother to Chillicothe in 1796. The Greggs opened a tavern on Water Street they called the Green Tree. Mrs. Gregg had two daughters, both of whom married men who became the mayors of Chillicothe, Ohio. One married William Steele, and the other married William Skerrett. The daughter of the latter couple, Lucinda Skerrett, married William Sumpter Murpy. Their portraits hang in the parlor of the Ross County Heritage Center museum. -- source link
