sunflowerconstellation: siciliancunningcraft: In a few short days people all over the world will be celebrating the Feast of Saint Michael the Archangel, or what is often referred to as “Michaelmas” in the English-speaking world. The feast falls on the traditional date of the Autumnal Equinox, September 29, a day that marks the beginning of Autumn when the days become shorter and the nights longer. So why is it that we celebrate the Archangel who conquered the darkness on the day that darkness takes over our days? Michaelmas is observed around the time of year that is traditionally believed to be the time when Michael defeated the legions of Lucifer and cast him out of Heaven, Lucifer’s fall and transformation into Satan brought the darkness of sin to our world. It is because of this that, come 29 September when the darkness of night becomes longer, we will honor the strength of Michael and his legions, and petition him to bring us that strength during this time of cold and darkness when we will need his protection the most. So take to your altars, festoon them in red, leave offerings to him of garlic and brandy, burn High Altar incense, and with crimson candles ignite the Fiamma di San Michele to invoke the aid of Michael’s celestial sword to safeguard you during this time of darkness. This is the strongest time to conjure protection for yourself and your loved ones, bless your amulets and craft your brevi, and above all hold firm to your faith in the light during this upcoming season of darkness and celebrate with your families the strength of San Michele.
