leviathan-supersystem:berkertexbribe: problemstheclown: NK is literally a monarchy lol WELL WELL, LOOKS LIKE WE’VE GOT OURSELVES A LIBERAL OVER HERE WHO DOESN’T RESPECT THE RED WHITE AND BLUE! LISTEN UP SNOWFLAKE, THIS FLAG STANDS FOR FREEDOM AND DEMOCRACY, AND BEFORE YOU DISRESPECT IT YOU SHOULD REMEMBER THE BRAVE SOLDIERS WHO DIED IN THE FATHERLAND LIBERATION WAR FIGHTING AGAINST IMPERIALIST TYRANNY! THESE COLORS DON’T RUN!! The DPRK is literally not a monarchy. Local public conventions deliberate and appoint candidates to the legislature who are then confirmed or denied by a vote in that locality. The DPRK is a representative democracy with a legislature made up of three parties and one organisation: the Worker’s Party of Korea, which is the most popular by far, the Chondoist Chongu party which is a Christian socialist party, and the Korean Social Democratic Party. The organisation is Chongryon, which represents ethnic Koreans living in Japan. There are also 2 independents. As for the allegation that the Kim family are or function as monarchs, it’s also simply not true. The highest offices in the DPRK are the head of government, the head of the state, and the head of the military, with many roles also filled by the head of the legislature. The constitutional structure is similar to many countries such as France, which have both a prime minister and a president with separate political powers and responsibilities. Kim Jong-un is head of the military, and so one of three (in practice, four) of the country’s leaders. Kim Jong-un is a powerful man from a very influential family, but that’s an entirely separate matter from the constitutional structure of the country. You may as well argue that JFK was a monarch or that Jeb Bush was a monarch. Their power comes from their political office, and while their family is probably a major part of how they achieved that office, it totally mischaracterises the nature of their power to call it monarchical. The worst you can say about the family is that they’re extremely popular and lean very heavily on the successes of Kim Il-sung. -- source link
