Bakuon (Episode 1)It could be a bit exhausting watching Bakuon’s pilot, with the show seemingly squeezing a lot of of the manga’s chapters to introduce itself. (Haven’t read it though, so I have no idea how it’s structured exactly)Just like a typical Japanese sports plot, we have Hane, an airhead introduced to the world of motorbikes after finding a classmate looking awesome with her rig. From there we get to see the other characters who will help build the club where the rest of the episodes will center into. The show feels like a parody on how it uses sports anime tropes - you’ll just cringe on how the shonen treatment of sports anime (finding meaning and friendship in sports as if it’s the only thing that matters) just seems silly when you already saw it gazillion times (and done by girls). The characters are cute, and that would be enough for me to stay a few more episodes. But it has to work on the plot not going all over the place. On the other hand I find it amusing that real-life Japanese motorcycle brands such as Honda, Kawasaki and Suzuki are sponsoring the show - who knows this can end up a clever Japanese export. -- source link
