“Prey” (1998), a one season series about an anthropologist who discovers that a new species of humans is emerging thanks to global warming, more intelligent, sociopathic, and with serial-killer tendencies. Rare dramatic role for Debra Messing. Weirdly, the premise is a throwback to a lot of 1920s horror, where a cliche of the era was the struggle to understand the deep human evil that led to World War I, and a simplistic view of human nature led to the belief some malevolent subgroup of sociopaths walked among us, responsible for the wars and miseries of the world (a frequent subject of scifi of that decade, with obvious racial implications).Prey was set in the same world as scifi channel’s Invisible Man, and there were occasional crossovers between the two series, ahead of its time worldbuilding. -- source link
