So one of the first things I noticed about the end of R is that when Chibiusa returned to the future, Crystal Tokyo was looking pretty freaking good for just having come out the worst in a carpet bombing from some Black Moon ships. We see several smoke park-sized craters get blown in it, and yet there’s not a scratch to be seen on the surface of the world. My explanation? Chibiusa travels home to a new time line, one were only she and the senshi have memories of the previous timeline and the Black Moon attacks. Traveling back in time and dragging the Black Moon clan with her irrevocably changed history for the better. The timeline Chibiusa came from was one that the Sailors faced no further threat beyond Ali and Ann. The outer senshi never awoke, except Pluto, and the senshi never had to power up, hence their original fuku in the various scenes we see of them. In the new timeline she returned to, the black moon clan was handled differently, and eventually Nemesis joined the future court of Crystal Tokyo in a healthy political relationship. Every time Chibiusa returns to the past/future, she creates a new timeline, resulting in slightly different futures. She’s still princess of crystal tokyo in each one, and her parents are still Usagi and Mamoru/Serenity and Endymion, but they are stronger every time this happens. Like after she returned home in S, Serenity would have been able to turn into Super Sailor Moon, and after she returned home at the end of stars, she would have been able to turn into Eternal Sailor Moon. So the reason the senshi were in their original fuku in the future, in short, is very wibbly-wobbly and timey-wimey nonsense. :P -- source link
