wafflepatterns: Meet new sewing pattern Double breasted coat I’m excited to introduce a new item from Waffle Patterns! Meet my new sewing pattern, Double breasted coat . The base of this coat design is a very authentic regular ~ loose fitting double breasted coat. But there are many design options. You can make a very functional winter coat with knit cuffs and many pockets, a dressy one with fur attachments or a raincoat with a big hood and water repellent fabric. I am a big fun of utility/work items. This coat design is inspired by men’s jeep coat and pea coat design. I love those functional and minimal styles and adapted them for a more casual and versatile ladies coat. There are 2 options for the collar design, a hood or a collar. The collar comes with a detachable fur collar. The dark red sample in photos shows the hood option and the plaid one is with the detachable fur collar. There are two (or three, four) pockets at the front bodice, and the design options are 3 types. One is a classic seam pocket with welt. The 2nd option is functional flap type. The 3rd one is a zipper one. This zipper one can be placed with the flap pocket. You can see the combo of the flap and zipper pockets on the dark red sample. The plaid sample has the welt pockets and I like this classic look. There is an inside welt pocket, too. It’s very functional, but you can skip this option. You can choose the cuff options from normal, with a knit cuff or with detachable fur parts. The detachable fur parts are a dressy option. You can see the fur collar and cuffs part on the plaid fabric sample. The pattern is drafted for woven coat/jacket fabrics, like wool, gabardine, corduroy, cotton twill or denim. Water-repellent fabrics like for trench coat or Softshell will be a nice option for making a raincoat. I wanted to make a raincoat but just I cannot find the perfect fabric, so I made the dark red sample with heavy cotton twill. The fabric is windproof, so it’s nice and warm with this faux fur lining. The plaid pattern sample is made with mid-weight wool. I wanted this coat a bit dressy so I combined with fur attachment parts. This wool was very easy to handle except plaid matching. The pattern includes the normal type lining pattern as always. It’s not for quilted or heavyweight liners. If you wish to make it with a winter version liner like the red sample, there is a blog post about that, please refer to it; https://blog.wafflepatterns.com/post/167771075466 While the lining fabric of the dark red sample is faux fur, I use satin backed quilted fabric on the sleeve parts for more comfort. The lining hem is separated from the shell. The plaid one was combined with a normal lining fabric. This wool is not really warm, so I interlined partly. There is a vent on the back. You can make with/without it. There is a photo tutorial about how to sew vent, please refer to that. But please make sure that the tutorial is originally for another coat pattern, some details are different. *********************The sewing pattern includes the 22 pages instruction and all the sewing processes are described with detailed illustrations.
