imnotapipedream:Andrew sitting on Neil’s shoulders bc he’s too smol and didn’t have a good viewThis was not Andrew’s idea of fun. Again, most things were not Andrew’s idea of fun; in fact, rarely did he seem to have a lot of pleasure lately, or ever, if Neil’s skin wasn’t involved. This time, though, Nicky couldn’t have found an activity less entertaining for a violent five foot tall young man.The fair, for one, was packed with people, laughter bursting in every direction, and Andrew could barely keep up with the back of Neil’s shirt. Here was another situation where three inches seemed like a lot. Adding to it Dan’s joyfulness, Matt’s unbelievable height advantage and Kevin’s irritated retorts, this place felt, with every second, exponentially more hellish. “Ah, come on! You look like you need a good dose of fun.” But Nicky, as it had been proved many times before, did not have a definition of that word that fit Andrew’s and Neil’s idea of it. He’d then proceeded to list down the pros of going to the fair, into which he naively included “meeting new people.” “I’m not sure Andrew likes new people,“ pointed out Matt. Kevin, Renée and him had turned their eyes towards Andrew, receiving his stare straight-on and not worrying all that much about it, seeing as they were so used to it. “I’m not sure Andrew likes people .” Allison had a point. “Neil?” Knowing Nicky, he wouldn’t want to let it go just yet. So when Neil looked at Andrew, and Andrew turned to face Neil, they knew they thought pretty much the same thing. Both didn’t like the idea of a crowd, didn’t fancy the loud, unceasing sounds, the smells, the suffocating presence of people; but one of them wanted to please his friends. So they went. And now. Now, Andrew felt like shredding someone to pieces. For the past fifteen minutes, the Foxes had been watching some kind of performance, maybe a magician or a mime or a group of dancers. There was music, there were ooohs and ahhhs; it almost sounded like a nice show. Andrew did not find it anything but annoying. He couldn’t see a thing. When he tugged at his own sleeve to pull out a knife and entertain himself on his own, it was brought to Nicky’s attention that blood was probably about to be shed. Wide-eyed, he grabbed Neil arm, instantly stirring Renée’s curiosity when a hushed “Boyfriend!” was all he could get out. Casually, Neil leaned towards Andrew, putting his body in front of the weapon. He glanced over his shoulder, meeting cold eyes that seemed more bored then angry. This changed slightly when Allison pouted, maybe thinking she was out of earshot, otherwise surely having suicidal thoughts. “Aw,” she mocked, “baby can’t see a thing.” This time, Neil reached back and touched Andrew’s hand, wrist, arm, making sure to keep the knife pointed away from him, although he knew hurting him was most probably the last thing Andrew Minyard would do. “Get on my shoulders,” Neil murmured. Somehow, it carried through the cheers and the applause. Andrew looked like a wild animal, and ready to prove his deadliness, too, but neither man flinched, neither man looked away for a long time. Neil did not repeat himself either. Only when he turned around to face the performance did he feel something on his back. For a single second, he tensed. Then, familiar hands roamed familiar territory, gripping shoulders and head and needing almost no help whatsoever to climb him like a tree. Neil stabilized him, holding his shins, though behind his back feet were tucked loosely. Perched on his shoulders, Andrew put one hand through Neil’s hair, tilting his head back and viciously peering down at his eyes.“Asshole." Neil didn’t fight off his smile. -- source link
