meganwhalenturner: meganwhalenturner:meganwhalenturner:If I am going to encourage people to post their art, the least I can do is post some of my own. So this it. The mole god. Thanks to this crappy picture, I remember exactly where I saw him in the Vatican museum in Rome. I remember that he is about two inches tall and solid metal, maybe bronze, I’m not sure, but he looked small yet weighty, waving his tiny little hands in the air and if he ever shows up in a story, it’s because of this image in my journal, probably from 2010. There were lots of these figurines, but this is the only one I drew and the only one I remember clearly now. Reblogging this for context. It’s my original post of the little mole god. I was running a fan art contest for an ARC of Thick As Thieves. The winner would be chosen by random number generator because I wanted people to have fun making art and feel comfortable posting it. Nobody’s art was going to be judged. In a really wonderful commencement speech, Neil Gaiman said “go, and make interesting mistakes, make amazing mistakes, make glorious and fantastic mistakes. Break rules. Leave the world more interesting for your being here. Make good art.”It’s great advice. I think art is important and I think good art is important. It’s just that I also think that creating art of any kind can be such a joyful experience it shouldn’t be limited to people who are really good at it. Not even to those who people are striving to be good at it. Play ukulele badly, draw terrible pictures of tiny bronze figurines, sing out of tune. Bad art never hurt anyone. I see in my activity page that the little mole god rises again.Maybe tumblr knows I am back in his territory. -- source link
