aguidetodeduction:lookatallthelovelyfandoms:Arthur Conan Doyle: Trying to see how little fucks he can give about a series of books before people start to notice. To those who write to me saying that Holmes did not fall and that he didn’t write to John out of empathy: I’m afraid I have to disagree. He did fall, at least a short distance. He hit a ledge part way down the falls and was attacked by Moran (who was throwing rocks and not shooting him, which as his central ability raises a whole different question on continuity) in attempts to make him fall the whole way.The book is never explicitly clear as to his reasons for abandoning Watson, but he certainly never says it was just to protect him: more to keep the investigation simple and not to bother him.Either way, Watson’s immediate forgiveness of Holmes’ deceit is considered one the laziest and most out of character events in literature. And that’s really saying something.HR -- source link
