Lorena Borjas (1960-2020) was a transgender activist known as ‘the mother’ of the transgender Latinx community in the New York borough of Queens. She was also a community leader and a defender of immigrant rights.Born in Mexico, she emigrated to the United States at the age of twenty and transitioned there. She initially shared an apartment with 20 other trans women, most of them sex workers, and offered them aid and counselling. She has worked all her life to protect trans women from human trafficking and violence; she tragically died in the Covid-19 pandemic. -- source link
