Legendary New Orleans drummer Idris Muhammad passed away this past Tuesday at the age of 74. Though best known in Jazz circles, Muhammad (born Leo Morris) had done a number of disco records in the late 70s for the Kudu and Fantasy labels, most famously “Could Heaven Ever Be Like This” from 1977 and “For Your Love” in 1980. Waxpoetics recently reposted their 2001 interview with Muhammad, from their very first issue. A seriously educational read.. R.I.P. Idris Muhammad - The Waxpoetics Interview (by Eothen Alapatt) “Secretly, whatever you have is gonna come out anyhow. If you think you are hiding something—you have a private vault that you have stuff in—when you leave this world your wife is going to open it up and sell everything. She’s gonna sell everything in that vault! It’s gonna come out anyway. So why not be free with it while you’re here and share it with other people? ’Cause it don’t belong to you.” -- source link
