The Baader-Meinhof Complex, by Stefan Aust, 2008This is a well-written narrative of the Red Army Faction - how it started, how it was run, what it did, and how it fragmented. It has less about the organisation after 1977 - though the things that the group are notorious for happened in the 70s, it remained active until the 90s. It doesn’t pull its punches about what the RAF did (including assistance from the Stasi), but it equally highlights things like the surveillance which was categorically denied at the time. The real thing that comes out is just how much Baader dominated the group, and just how nasty and abusive a character he was (and that in the splinter groups, it was the nasty and abusive ones who ended up running the show) -- source link
