It’s Asexual Awareness Week! There are many amazing people who are doing work to increase visibility and understanding about asexuality in the upcoming weeks. I’m really excited for the Spotlight on Asexuality Studies event that is taking place on Monday the 24th at the University of Warwick, because there is nothing going on in my town, and the Spotlight will be streaming some of the event and posting videos later. There are also many screenings of (A)sexual going on in cities around the globe, and talks at university campuses. I’ve heard really good things about the (A)sexual documentary, so consider checking it out if there is a screening near you. On a personal note, without going too far into it because this tumblr isn’t intended to be about me and I’d prefer not to tip my cards any more than is necessary, not understanding my sexuality until I was 19 years old was isolating and depressing. It resulted in some unfortunate situations, a lot of heartache, and an unhealthy amount of self-inflicted alienation. It is my hope that increased asexual visibility can counter this for people in the future. After learning about asexuality, and coming to terms with myself, I have also learned so much about others. About sexuality, about gender, about life; I strive to learn new things every day. My life is better and it is enriched by this awareness.
