Mont Sant Michel — The island has a long history due to its unique geography, while the iconic appearance of Mont Sant Michel Abbey was completed in 1523. The island sits about half mile off the mainland and the bay has some of the most dynamic tides in the world. The tides were described by our host as “fast as galloping horses” a phrase first coined by Victor Hugo. The sea level can change by 50 ft in just a few hours. In 2014 a new bridge replaced the manmade causeway to improve access to the island and return it to its original geography.
