Marilyn Monroe photographed by Richard Avdeon, 1957. That year, she took a different kind of sabbatical, or retirement, than she had in 1955. After marrying Arthur Miller in the summer of 1956, she practically went right into filming The Prince and the Showgirl. When they returned, they vacationed and bought and apartment on Sutton Place; eventually adding a summer home on Long Island and permanent home in Roxbury, CT, to their list. Marilyn stepped away from (most) publicity opportunities and filming. She reveled in her new life as a wife and step-mother, and potential new life as a mother herself. -- source link
