(These questions were so beefy and lovely I’mma make individual posts to focus on them as I write out each one. <33333333) It’s not entirely the case that they’re feared so much as there’s just no concrete or mutually agreed upon evidence of them existing at all. It’s a lot like how magic is viewed in reality where some people believe in it and its effects and some simply see it as too fantastical to be true. The same goes for monsters in that commonfolk will occasionally have cryptic “sightings” of them but there’s always a deniability over whether or not they actually exist. On the other end of it, there’s no universal reason as to why these societies choose to hide. Most simply choose to maintain the old rules of keeping one’s magic/monster-hood a secret out of ancient tradition. The closest anyone comes to conflicting opinions over this issue is in regards to monsters/magefolk with commonfolk relations. Some believe all commonfolk should not be affiliated with magic and monsters, where others believe that there are certain circumstances that permit the allowance for commonfolk to be aware of their existence. (I.e. Family members born without magic but still living in a mage household.) The Hope’s Peak Academy equivalent is a lot smaller in function for the purpose of this AU. The Dream Realm as we’re calling it, is a matrix that amasses many individuals’ dreams. These individuals are handpicked by its creator Izuru Kamukura (Most closely resembling the Sandman), in order to allow for their dreams to flourish into possibility and hope in the real world. -- source link
