I recently attended a lecture on culture’s impact on art in the 19th century. The speaker showed a post-mortem photo of a man standing in a studio and asked for guesses about what was different. He was very surprised when I confidently identified it, and everyone else in the hall gasped in horror. Apparently it’s not common knowledge… unless you read articles on that sort of thing. -- source link
