… I just got home from a day I did not expect. It started with my first visit to @iowafarmsanctuary, our state’s very first sanctuary for farmed animals ∙ We weren’t there long when the co-founder, Shawn, got a call that a truck full of cows had flipped over on a highway about 45 minutes away. We left for the crash in hopes of saving any survivors ∙ I can’t even begin to describe the scene. This photo is me inside the wreckage. The “top” of the bottom layer of the truck is to my left. To my right is the floor of the truck. “Above” the floor on the left is the mangled and gutted out top half of the truck ∙ As far as we know, at least 20 cows died or were shot. Four escaped and had not been located last we heard ∙ When we arrived only 3 bodies remained, being picked up by a construction crane and dropped into a massive dump truck, from which you could see legs projecting at the top. ∙ I will certainly be releasing a video documenting this day. I cannot say when it will happen, but there is so much to share, so much to say, so many deserving to be heard and seen ∙ Shawn eventually tracked down 8 survivors and we were able to find them and Shawn negotiated their surrender ∙ For those eight cows, this horrific, violent event was their only shot at life.
