thereadingchallengechallenge:Review: The Boy From the Mish by Gary LonesboroughRating: 5/5 #LoveOzYA“I rest my hand over his and hold it against my chest. I want him to feel my heartbeat, to know it is beating for him; to know we are both alive and that neither of us is dreaming.”A beautiful story about two Indigenous Australian teenage boys falling in love over the summer holidays. Jackson and Tomas were wonderful characters with gallons of personality and a great sense of humour that had me leaning back and laughing my head off. Lonesborough tackles the struggles of growing up facing racism and dealing with internalised homophobia with exquisite nuance while maintaining a relaxed atmosphere that lets the sweet romance take its time. I loved the way he let the boys be unsure and worried but still excited about what they were discovering with each other.A fantastic novel that I would highly recommend to anyone this Pride Month. Fingers crossed Lonesborough writes more books as wonderful as The Boy From the Mish.Warnings: homophobia, racism, underage drinking, mild sex scenes, references to domestic violence, instance of police brutality. -- source link
