educatier: May Masterpost Challenge 3/20 End goal: to make 20 masterposts by the end of the month I am starting a 4 or more masterpost mini-series about graphics/printables!!! (Imma gonna space them out ofc so I’m doing one every week)This is for my design people *waves at invisible crowd* Of course this is basically a five minute crash course so it won’t include all the details but you will understand the basic by the end. (p.s. I use Photoshop cc for all of this just an FYI if you are searching for alternatives, here is a great mp by @obsidianstudy) (p.p.s I am just a wannabe graphic designer that don’t have formal training so take everything w/ a grain of trash salt) 01. OTF VS TTF. Fonts come in 2 formats. OTF and TTF. There is really no difference between OpenType Fonts and TrueType Fonts except that OpenType Fonts are better for font designer since you get to add more glyphs/ligature/etc. But for all us common folks with absolutely no knowledge of typeface, we can use either one and there is no notable difference. How to install each: Download/open file/install done! 02. TYPES. a. Serif. They are basically letters with little feet at the ends. Times New Roman is a good example. For big long body of works, serifs are easier to read because the letter are so distinctive. b. Sans Serif. Letters without the small feet. Like Arial. Sans Serif is used a lot on tech/blog because it looks modern + looks good even when pixel quality is crap. My personal fave is Muli (It’s a google font and makes my heart sing.) There are more but this is just the basics. 03. Great Website to find Free Fonts. Terms to know: Commercial Use: using a font in a way that will help you make ca$h Personal Use: Opposite of Commercial. (WOOHOO HERE WE GO! THE FUN STUFF) Keep reading -- source link
