Inside Babylon: The Carribean Disapora in Britain, edited by Winston James and Clive Harris, 1993This is a selection of essays which covers a wide range of subjects related to its title, ranging from a discussion about women (which includes a wider range of WOC than just those from the Carribean diaspora), to the Notting Hill Carnival, to postwar government policies. It’s rather depressing reading some of them, with most data relating to the 1980s, and wondering if anything has at all changed for the better since then - for example, one essay highlights the importance of women’s refuges which are specific for different communities, and all I could think of was the closures of all kinds of women’s refuges recently. Recommended reading, but not comfortable reading. -- source link
