It’s ok to have a bad day, week, or even month. But it’s not ok to let yourself dwell on your bad feelings. Sometimes, you need to work against every thought in your mind to finally start to heal. It’s not fun, and it’s not easy, but you can do this. I know you can. Before you know it, you’ll feel so much happier! There’s been a rather dangerous thought going around Tumblr, an idea that it’s alright to let yourself be depressed, and that you can’t help yourself once you have it. That’s partially true, too. You can’t usually WILL yourself out of depression, because depression is literally a chemical imbalance in your brain. Something’s not functioning correctly on a molecular level, and that’s not something you can WILL to stop. However, with the right therapy and medication, you can absolutely use your mind to combat depression. It’s by no means a perfect, 100% flawless way to beat the monotony of depression, but it absolutely can help. Here’s a quick lowdown on how you can help yourself:1. Make yourself get out of bed. Even if you literally walk outside, stand there for 30 seconds, maybe walk down the street for a few minutes. You don’t even really have to do anything. Just get out of your room, and get outdoors. The sun gives us Vitamin D, which has been proven to reduce symptoms of depression.2. Clean something. Got a messy chair in your room that you just throw junk on? Clean it up. Dishes in the sink? Do ‘em. Just clean something. It’s relatively easy work, and it’ll give you a sense of accomplishment.3. TREAT. YO. SELF. For real! Put on your favorite outfit and watch your favorite movie. Sing loudly to your favorite song. Got a couple spare dollars? Buy your favorite snack, or get a cheap face mask from the store. Do something kind for yourself that doesn’t involve no movement. Those are just a few ideas. Have any more? Reply in this thread! -- source link
