Hiraeth Creature #1194 - Slab Dreg“Mountain wilds are considered sacred to the people of Hiraeth, as every night they are the first to be bathed within the purifying light of the Moon Goddess. Upon her descent to greet the beasts of the sky, the beating of her wings caresses the mountains in a steady, cleansing stream. Many pilgrims venture to these daunting heights to meditate under her pearlescent gleam. Though these stone towers are revered, aberrations still find a way to slink in through the shadows. Bursting out from bedrock, groaning and churning up dust, are fearsome phantoms taking the form of stone they’ve been unfortunately entombed in. Jagged and stomping, many mistake these dregs for malevolent earth spirits, but they carry properties more similar to ghosts, creating an unease as they rise from the ground and sapping life force from the touch. They hurl rocks from afar, each pebble they fling said to carry an electric sensation that can numb the body into paralysis. Known to travellers as “Slab Dregs”, mountain beasts seem to instinctively regard them with hostility and have been known to come to the aid of those who stumble over these patches of meddlesome stone. It is believed by most explorers that Slab Dregs are the ghosts of ancient miners, forever lost under cold stone, but there is another theory. Certain mountains hold ancient cities of an unknown kingdom within their summits, and some believe the Slab Dregs are the remnants of these people. Ghosts who shun moonlight despite being buried right below it, the depth of their Moonblindness is beyond staggering.” -- source link
