Hiraeth Creature #1195 - Yohn-Vol“The wilds of the Deep Realm are made up of weaving mazes of flora, bones, and ruins, scattered in great heaps of tangled forest. Remains of primordial beasts unknowable to the living and broken towers from kingdoms unclaimed dot the landscape, forming a wilderness for strange creatures to rule over. Leaping from bramble to bramble as quick as a blink is the Yohn-Vol. With their many wide, staring eyes they peek through cracks in old masonry and between interwoven vines at those who would think wise to enter their hunting grounds. The demons of the Deep Realm live similarly to the folk of Hiraeth, in road-bound caravans, keeping away from shadowy grounds if it can be helped. The Yohn-Vol’s gaze starts as curious, and grows into hunger if their quarry shows any sign of fear. They whip their tendrils at prey, looking to latch onto bare skin to quickly absorb a spot of blood before loosening their grip and striking again with another tendril. If one enters their forest proud and stoic, the Yohn-Vol are said to keep their distance. Thankfully, they are rather weak and dull creatures, often scared away by force or by cunning. Friendly demons have advised travellers from other realms to bring face coverings to avoid breathing in the fumes of plants poisonous to outsiders, and hiding one’s expression is usually enough to keep a Yohn-Vol from risking an attack on a foe they cannot readily read.” -- source link
