Previously on Joint Venture: Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4, Part 5, Part 6, Part 7, Part 8Chapter 9 Hostile Takeover Christina felt cold. The room was deadly silent. As she looked across to Jennifer, she could see a mixture of emotions. It was part worry, part anger. Suddenly she felt a searing pain in her shoulder that soon spread across her torso. Overcome with agony, Christina fell to her knees as she reached up to her shoulder. It felt wet and as she took her hand away she could see blood covering it. Jennifer couldn’t believe what had happened. While she believed that Alexis was bitter about her situation, Jennifer also thought that she wouldn’t be capable of shooting either of them. That somehow, she’d be able to talk them out of it and get Alexis to surrender her weapon. Unfortunately, that was not how it happened. Jennifer watched almost in slow motion as Christina fell to her knees, her hand covered in blood. “One down, one to go,” Alexis said mocking her. Jennifer turned to her, her mind filled with rage. Alexis raised the weapon to her, pointing straight at her head. She pulled the trigger, but nothing happened. She pulled it again, and again. Internally Jennifer breath a sigh of relief. “Didn’t you know? Those fancy weapons we brought are smart. They know when they’re being used on an agent.” While Alexis processed the information she was oblivious to Jennifer moving straight for her. Christina faded in and out as she watched Jennifer take out Alexis in one fell swoop. She took some wire from the ground and bound her hands behind her back. Alexis struggled a little before giving up though her mouth didn’t. Even tied on the floor she refused to surrender yelling about her duty to Michelle and how she was going to be her right hand. Sick of hearing Alexis mouthing off, Jennifer knocked out Alexis cold. She then went to Christina to check on her. As she got close she could see that she was breathing and coughing. Christina was holding her left shoulder, there was a lot of blood.Christina rolled over holding her shoulder, the look of pain all over her face. “Oh Christina are you ok?” Jennifer said a slight tremble in her voice. “I’ll be ok.” Christina said as Jennifer helped her sit upright. “Where is Amanda?” “She is over there unconscious.” Jennifer said pointing. They both made their way over to her, Christina holding her shoulder.“Christina, don’t move. We need to get you help.” “Don’t worry about me. I’ll get Amanda to April’s office, it is just on the next level.” “Are you sure?” Jennifer asked “Yes, go get Michelle for us.” Christina said helping Amanda walk that was now starting to wake up. As Jennifer turned to leave Christina called out to her. “Go to Amanda’s office, go to the computer on the left side of her desk. Insert this key in the port on the side of it.” Christina took a key from around her neck and gave it to Jennifer with a piece of paper. “Follow the prompts on the screen. This will start lock down and secure all the offices and labs. The second command will cause the nanobots in the staff and guards to reprogram their host, they will no longer take commands from Michelle or Alexis. They will only take commands from me, Amanda, and you. I entered you into the emergency command staff just before I came to see you tonight. Be safe I will see you at Michelle’s office.” With that Christina helped Amanda off to April’s office. Jennifer raced through the mansion. Christina wasn’t lying. All the maids now stood to attention as she approached ready to accept her orders. As she met the chief, she was puzzled to see her standing outside the office of Michelle. “I couldn’t just leave you Ma'am.” “The director?” “Safely away. Put her in her car myself.” “Excellent” Jennifer smiled as she turned her attention to the door. “Chief? Let’s end this.”The Penultimate Chapter.
